Several San Francisco investors form the CAPAY VALLEY LAND COMPANY.
1888- Esparanza is laid out as a town.
May 15, 1888- The VACA VALLEY & CLEAR LAKE RAILROAD merge into the NORTHERN RAILWAY, (SOUTHERN PACIFIC RAILROAD subsidiary.)
July 1, 1888- NORTHERN RAILWAY opens 23.65 miles of track between Madison and Rumsey via Capay (Esparto).
1890-LEVY & SCHWAB - Esparto General Store
COMMERCIAL BRICK BUILDING- that spanned three store-fronts facing Yolo Ave, with two single store-fronts on the left (south) connected to a two-story store on the right (north).
The two-story portion of the building was built to house the ESPARTO GENERAL STORE, with a meeting hall upstairs and a full basement. (The basement housed the “farm equipment.”
Built by L. F. Craft for Wolf Levy and Sam Schwab (1890)
A Grocery and a Hardware store were also located in the building.
Empty Lot- Yolo Ave and Woodland Ave, Esparto, California.
The BRICK BUILDING was characterized by its seven recurring arched window openings and recessed entryways. Patterned Brick accented the Cornice.
From 1915-1975- members of the Wyatt family owned and operated the WYATT’S GENERAL STORE.
Between 1980-1996- The building was leased to the Garrison family, who owned and operated a “hardware store” in the Wyatt Building.
Between 1996 and 2009, the building was vacant.
2009- The former “LEVY & SCHWAB” Building Collapsed.

First known as the Adams Block, named after its original owner, David Quincy Adams.
Three Store Fronts on the ground floor. The second floor of the Building became a School in 1906, and then later a MASONIC HALL.

The Front facade includes a “recessed Entry, Transoms and a Raised Parapet.
The “other door” (Spartan Grounds entrance) located on the front facade leads what was once the “second-story residence,” prior to the 1926 Fire.

1911-F. B. CHANDLER LUMBER YARD

The one-story Building is characteristic of the “Light Industrial” structures that were built during the early part of the century.
The Facade displays a Raised and Stepped Parpaper and has been stuccoed over.
The “Lumberyard Building,” originally referred to as the CHANDLER LUMBER YARD was initially located near the “railroad tracks,” until Esparto Business man A. H. Fredson constructed the Lumberyard on 817 Yolo Ave.
In 1920, the DIAMOND MATCH COMPANY acquired the Esparto Lumberyard after the death of Mr. Fred. B. Chandler.
Funeral of Wealthy Solano Man is Held

VACAVILLE, Solano County., February 17.—— The funeral of Fred B. Chandler, a large owner and orchardist in Vaca Valley, who died at the age of 87 years from paralysis, took place this afternoon, and the interment was in Vacaville Cemetery.
Mr. Chandler, who was born in New York, came to California in 1852 when 20 years of age and located in Shasta, Shasta County, then a thriving mining camp, where he lived until 1870, when he moved to Elmira, Solano county, engaging in the lumber business. Last November he sold the yards in Elmira, Vacaville, Winters and Esparto to the Diamond Match Company.

ESPARTO BANK TO OPEN SOON
Permanent Organization of the Stockholders Effected at Meeting Held Yesterday.

ESPARTO (Yolo County). January 9—— A permanent organization of the Esparto Bank was perfected at a meeting of the stockholders held here today when the following board of directors was elected: A. H. Fredson, M. O. Wyatt, J. E. Winter, A. E. Neilson, C. R. Nisson, J. L. Stephens and Ed J. Mast.
The officers of the institution will be chosen at the next meeting to be held Thursday of next week. The new bank is organized under the laws of the state of California with a capital stock of $25,000, all the stockholders were present at today’s meeting, which was presided over by Dr. M. O. Wyatt and Fred M. Wyatt of the First National Bank of Winters, prime movers of the organization of the Esparto Bank.
A new building that just has been erected in Esparto will house the bank and the institution will be open for business within a very short time.
