History Detective- Lynn Fostine- Esparto (Yolo County) California
History Detective, Lynn Fostine resides in the rural, farm-town of Esparto, (Yolo County) California,
Known for its agricultural heritage, beginning with Capay Valley first ALMOND FESTIVAL, dating back to 1915.
The unincorporated “Yolo County small town,” originally named Esparanza was built on the formally named Rhoda Stephens Bonynge Track.
(The Stephens Family, who owned part of the Rancho Canada de Capay, first settled in the Esparto region in the 1850’s.)
In 1888, Mrs. Rhoda Stephens Bonynge sold 1,300 acres to the CAPAY VALLEY LAND COMPANY, a Southern Pacific Railroad Holding Company.
The CAYPAY VALLEY LAND COMPANY surveyed and mapped, a future development for a large town, that would include a SOUTHERN PACIFIC DEPOT, surrounded by a “Rural Subdivision of small 5, 10, and 20 acre Farm Land Parcels.”
